Tony Jouanneau | Atelier Sumbiosis

Tony Jouanneau

Tony Jouanneau is a designer, textile finisher, and researcher. Trained in product design, he collaborated with the Tzuri Gueta textile studio before shifting his practice towards eco-design and biodesign during his studies at ENSCI-Les Ateliers. In 2018, he founded ATELIER SUMBIOSIS, a textile finishing lab where science and craftsmanship converge. His research involves dyeing processes with microalgae, patterns devoured by insects, and microbial printing on fabrics. These experimental projects are inspired by the virtuous principle of symbiosis, imagining an innovative collaboration between living organisms and soft materials. His work has led to key partnerships with artisans, particularly in the luxury sector. Among his creations are large-format works naturally finished for the Dior House. In 2023, he won the Villa Kujoyama award for his study on sea urchin dyes in collaboration with Sorbonne University. This project took him to Japan, where he is working to develop a supply chain around this invasive resource, in dialogue with the island's ancestral textile know-how and within a holistic approach. In 2024, Tony Jouanneau was awarded the Grand Prix de la Création by the City of Paris for his innovations in the Arts and Crafts sector.
